Viewing Descendants

The Descendants section shows an animal’s offspring going forward up to three generations — its calves, their calves (grandcalves), and one generation beyond that.

How the Tree Is Built

Cattle360 finds every animal in your herd whose Sire or Dam is the animal you’re viewing, then repeats the search on each of those offspring, building a tree that branches downward for up to three generations. Each descendant is a clickable card.

Reading the Layout

• The animal you’re viewing sits at the top, with offspring branching downward beneath it.
• Each level down is one generation of progeny.
• An animal appears here for every calf that lists it as a sire or dam, so a bull or cow with many calves will show a wide tree.

When There Are No Descendants

If no animals in your herd list this animal as a sire or dam, the section shows “No recorded offspring for this animal yet.” As you record calves and assign this animal as their parent, they’ll appear here automatically.

How Offspring Get Linked

• From calving. When you create offspring from the calving screen, the calf’s dam and sire are prefilled from the breeding record, so the calf shows up under both parents’ descendant trees.
• Manually. You can also set the Sire and Dam fields directly on any animal record, and that animal will appear under those parents.

Descendants vs. Progeny Performance

The Descendants tree shows the individual offspring and how they branch. The Progeny performance insight card summarizes the same offspring as numbers — total count, sex split, and average weights. Use the tree to explore individuals and the card for a quick performance read.

Tips

• Link calves to both parents. Recording the sire as well as the dam means a bull’s descendant tree and progeny stats stay complete, not just the cow’s.
• Click through the tree to review a specific calf’s weights, treatments, or its own pedigree.
