Accessing the Pedigree Tab

This article explains how to open the Pedigree tab, what plan it requires, and what to expect the first time you use it.

Opening the Pedigree Tab

1. Go to Animals and open the record for the animal you want to view.
2. Select the Pedigree tab — the branching sitemap icon, labelled “Ancestors and descendants.”
3. The pedigree loads automatically. It is calculated fresh from your current herd data each time you open it.

Plan Requirement

The Pedigree tab is a Premium feature. The tab is visible on every plan, but what it shows depends on your subscription:

• Premium plans see the full family tree, insight cards, mating preview, and pedigree PDF.
• Other plans see an upgrade card describing the feature, with an option to move to Premium.

What You’ll See

Once loaded, the page shows insight cards (Inbreeding, Progeny performance, and, when there’s enough ancestry, Breed composition) at the top, followed by the Ancestors, Siblings, and Descendants sections, a mating preview tool, and a button to download the pedigree PDF.

If the Pedigree Doesn’t Load

• If you see “We couldn’t load the pedigree right now,” click Try again. The page re-requests the data.
• If the Ancestors section says no sire or dam is linked, the animal simply has no lineage recorded yet. Assign a sire and/or dam on the animal’s record and reopen the tab.

Reading the Animal Cards

Each animal in the pedigree appears as a card showing its identifier plus its type, sex, and breed. The identifier shown follows your herd’s default identification type (ear tag, EID, freeze brand, name, or other tag) and falls back to the next available identifier if the preferred one is blank. Click any card to open that animal’s record.

Tips

• Set your default identification type under livestock type settings so pedigree cards show the identifier you actually use day to day.
• The tab always reflects the latest data. If you change a sire or dam link, reopen the Pedigree tab to see the updated tree.
