Deleting an Animal

If an animal record was created by mistake or is no longer needed, you can delete it. Deleting hides the animal from Cattle360 — it does not erase the record, so an accidental delete can be put back.

How to Delete an Animal

1. Open the animal’s record.
2. Click Actions > Delete.
3. Confirm the deletion when prompted.

To delete several animals at once, select them in a list and use Bulk Actions > Delete Animals.

What Happens

• The animal disappears from your animal lists, groups, searches, reports and animal counts.
• It no longer counts toward your plan’s animal limit.
• Everything attached to the animal — weights, notes, treatments, ratings, breedings, photos and its group memberships — is kept alongside the record, untouched.
• Sire and dam links on other animals are not cleared.
• The delete is written to the audit log, so you can see who deleted the animal and when.

Restoring a Deleted Animal

1. Open a group the animal belonged to.
2. Click the group menu and choose Deleted Animals.
3. Find the animal and click Restore, or tick several and use Restore Selected.

The animal comes back exactly as it was, with all of its history, and the restore is written to the audit log alongside the delete. The list is scoped to that group — it shows only animals that still belong to it — and each entry tells you when it was deleted and by whom. Use the search box if the list is long.

Restoring is only available from a group, so if the animal was not in any group when it was deleted, contact support to have it restored. Restoring needs write permission; a read-only user sees the list but no Restore buttons.

When to Delete vs. Change Status

In most cases, changing the animal’s status is preferable to deleting:

Important Notes

• Financial records are not affected. If the animal had a sale ticket linked to a financial transaction, the transaction remains in the ledger. Review your financials if needed.
• Deleted records still take up space. The rows stay in the database, which is what makes a restore possible. If you want deleted test animals cleared out for good, contact support.
