Creating a Grazing Rotation
A grazing rotation cycles a herd through a set sequence of paddocks (pastures) and helps you keep track of when it’s time to move them. Cattle360 tracks how long the herd has been on the current paddock against your target and shows you when a move is due.
How to Open Rotations
- Go to the Pastures screen.
- Click Rotations in the header.
How to Create a Rotation
- On the Grazing Rotations page, click Add Rotation.
- Fill in the details:
- Rotation Name — A name to identify the rotation (e.g., “North Herd Rotation”). Required.
- Target Days on Paddock (optional) — How many days the herd should spend on each paddock before moving. Cattle360 uses this to tell you when a move is due or overdue.
- Paddocks — Use the Add Paddock dropdown to choose existing pastures, in the order you want the herd to move through them. Add at least two paddocks to build a rotation. Once added, you can drag paddocks to reorder them, use the up/down arrows, or remove one with the × button.
- Click Save.
How Rotations Work
Paddocks cycle in the order you set — after the last paddock, the rotation loops back to the first. Each rotation card on the list page shows:
- The number of paddocks and how many animals are on the current paddock.
- Whether a move is due, and if it’s due in N days or overdue (based on your Target Days on Paddock).
- The name of the next paddock in line.
Tips
- Set a target if you want move reminders. Rotations without a target days value still track history, but won’t flag a move as due or overdue.
- Order matters. The paddock order you set is the exact sequence the herd will cycle through, so lay it out the way you actually intend to move animals.
- Check the pasture’s Grazing tab too. It links back to the rotation and shows live stocking stats for that specific paddock.
