Printing a Fieldsheet
The whole point of a fieldsheet is the paper. Opening one shows you exactly what will print.
How to Print
- Go to Reports → Fieldsheets and click the sheet.
- Check the table — the record count is next to the sheet’s name.
- Re-order the columns on screen first if you want to (see Sorting a Fieldsheet).
- Click Print / Save as PDF.
On the web this opens your browser’s print dialog. Choose your printer, or pick Save as PDF as the destination to keep a copy. In the Cattle360 mobile app, the sheet is rendered into a PDF on the device and handed to the system share sheet, so you can save it, email it or send it to a printer.
What the Printed Sheet Looks Like
The screen toolbar is dropped, and a print header is added:
- The fieldsheet name and your account name.
- When it was generated, and how many records it holds.
- The sort order in plain language — “Sorted by Pasture, then Ear Tag”.
Then the table, with one row per animal:
- A row number, so a sheet can be referred to by line.
- Your data columns, filled in.
- Your writable columns, blank and ruled.
The table is built to survive a page break, so headings stay readable across a multi-page sheet.
What Prints
- Every animal matching the filters — the sheet re-runs its criteria each time it is opened, so it is current as of now.
- In the order on screen. An on-screen re-sort carries onto the paper; it just isn’t saved for next time.
- If no animals match, the sheet prints with “No animals match the fieldsheet criteria” — go back and loosen the filters.
Getting the Layout Right
- Print landscape for anything more than four or five columns.
- Cut data columns before shrinking the print scale. A sheet printed at 70% to fit is a sheet nobody can read in a dusty alley.
- Check the page count in the print preview before sending a 400-head sheet to the printer.
Bringing the Data Back In
Nothing written on a fieldsheet comes back into Cattle360 by itself — type it in afterwards, on the animal record or through the matching bulk action. If you want a paper workflow that is read back in, look at Workings instead: a working packet can be printed, marked up and scanned back for review. See Scanning Paper Working Sheets.
Tips
- Print one page first. Confirm the columns land where you want them before committing the whole herd to paper.
- Save the PDF as well as printing. It is a record of what the herd looked like on the day, even after the paper copy gets rained on.
