Fieldsheets Overview
A fieldsheet is a printable form: your animals down the page, the data you already have filled in, and blank columns to write in by hand. It is the paper you take to the chute, the calving barn or the pickup when typing into a phone isn’t practical.
Where to Find Them
Open Reports → Fieldsheets, or click the Fieldsheets chip on the Reports dashboard.
What a Fieldsheet Is Made Of
- Animal filters — which animals appear on the sheet. The same criteria as a report or a smart group: status, type, sex, breeding status, color, groups, pastures, age, last seen on a check, your custom fields, and exclusions.
- Data columns — the values Cattle360 already knows, printed for you.
- Sort order — the order rows print in, up to three levels deep. See Sorting a Fieldsheet.
- Writable columns — blank, ruled columns for writing in the field. Each one is headed with whatever you name it and marked with a pencil icon.
Every printed sheet also carries a row number for each animal.
Starting from a Template
The Fieldsheets screen offers five ready-made sheets. Each comes with sensible filters and columns already chosen, which you can change before saving:
| Template | For |
|---|---|
| Calving | Pregnant cows, with dam and sire pre-filled and blanks for calf tag, birth date, birth weight, sex and calving ease. |
| Weaning | Unweaned calves, with blanks for weaning date and weight. |
| Breeding | Active cows, with blanks for bull, breeding date and method. |
| Pregnancy Check | Exposed cows, with blanks for check date, result, estimated due date and days bred. |
| Treatment / Health | Active animals, with blanks for treatments, vaccinations and observations. |
Or click Custom Fieldsheet and build one from scratch.
Starting from a Report
If a report already selects the right animals, turn it into a sheet rather than rebuilding the filters:
- Open the report and choose Create fieldsheet from report from its menu, or
- Use Create Fieldsheet from the report’s row menu on the Reports dashboard.
The report’s criteria, columns and sort order all come across, and the generator shows “From report: …” so you know where it came from. Editing the fieldsheet afterwards does not change the report.
Saved Fieldsheets
Saved sheets appear at the top of the Fieldsheets screen, badged with their template name or Custom. Click one to open it, or use the icons on the card to edit or delete it.
A saved fieldsheet stores the recipe, not a snapshot. Open it next month and it re-runs against your herd as it is then — so a “pregnant cows” sheet keeps being right without being rebuilt.
Fieldsheets vs. Reports
- A report is for reading on screen and exporting to CSV.
- A fieldsheet is for printing and writing on. It is the only one with writable columns and a print layout built to survive a page break.
Tips
- Start from a template even if you’ll change everything. The writable columns alone save the most fiddly part of the setup.
- Build the criteria as a report first if you want to check what comes back before committing it to paper.
