Creating a Fieldsheet

Creating a Fieldsheet

A fieldsheet is built in four sections: who is on it, what is printed for them, what order they print in, and what you want blank to write on.

How to Create One

  1. Go to Reports → Fieldsheets.
  2. Click a template to start from, or Custom Fieldsheet to start empty.
  3. Give it a Fieldsheet Name — for example “Spring Calving 2026”.
  4. Click Set Filters to choose which animals appear, then set the Data Columns, Sort Order and Writable Columns.
  5. Click Save.

Animal Filters

Set Filters opens the same filter form a report or a smart group uses, with every one of the same criteria:

  • Animal — Status, Type, Sex, Color.
  • Location & assignment — Pasture, Owner, Group.
  • Exclusions — Exclude Group and Exclude Pasture, which drop animals even when they match everything else.
  • Custom Fields — conditions on your own fields. The section only appears if your account has any.
  • Pedigree — Sire and Dam.
  • Breeding — Breeding status, Conception, and Pending calving only for animals with an active breeding that hasn’t produced a calf.
  • Age — a minimum and/or maximum in days, months or years, measured against today.
  • Last seen on a check — a rolling window against your check results. See The Last Seen Column and Filter.
  • Birth date range.
  • Life events & dates — weaning, purchase, sale and death, each with an optional date window.

Click Apply to keep your choices, or Cancel to leave the sheet as it was. What you set is listed on the page underneath the button, so you can see a sheet’s filters without opening the form; Clear removes all of them at once.

Leaving a filter empty means it doesn’t narrow anything. Multiple filters combine — an animal must match all of them.

Data Columns

Pick a column from Select column to add and click Add. Added columns appear as chips; drag them to reorder, or click the × to remove one.

Every report column is available here, including Last Seen and each of your custom fields. Values are formatted to match their type — dates print as dates, Yes/No fields as Yes or No.

Sort Order

Add up to three sort levels so the sheet prints in the order you work in — by pasture, then by ear tag, for instance. See Sorting a Fieldsheet for the details.

Writable Columns

These are the blanks you write in. Type a name in Column name and click Add (or press Enter). Name them for what you will actually write: “Calf Tag”, “Preg?”, “Weight”, “Notes”.

Writable columns print empty with a pencil icon in the heading. They hold no data — nothing you write on paper comes back into Cattle360 from a fieldsheet, and they cannot be sorted on.

Editing a Saved Fieldsheet

Click the pencil on its card on the Fieldsheets screen, or Edit from the toolbar while viewing it. Changes take effect the next time the sheet is opened — it re-runs its filters against your herd every time, so it never goes stale.

Removing a data column also removes any sort level built on it.

Tips

  • Fewer columns, wider blanks. A sheet crammed with data columns leaves no room to write. Print the identifiers you match on and leave the rest to a report.
  • Always include an identifier. Ear tag, or whatever your account identifies animals by — without it the sheet can’t be matched back to the herd.
  • Name the sheet for the job and the season. “Fall preg check 2026” is easier to find next year than “Preg check”.
