Weighing Animals During a Working

A Weight task lets you capture each animal’s weight at the chute — either automatically from a connected scale or by typing it in. This article covers both.

Adding a Weight Task

Add a Weight task when you create the working (see Defining Tasks for a Working). It then appears as a row on each animal’s task list at the chute. You can also add a one-off Weight task to a single animal with + Add Task on the chute screen.

Weighing With a Connected Scale

When a scale indicator is connected (see Connecting an EID Reader and Scale), the chute shows a large live weight readout at the top:

  • The readout updates in real time and shows whether the reading is Live or Stable.
  • Record the Weight task to capture the current reading onto the animal.
  • If your scale is in Data Logger mode, a single weigh can both identify the animal (via its EID) and record the weight.
  • The readout automatically clears between animals so you never record a previous animal’s weight by mistake. If the scale drops out, the stale number is cleared immediately.

Entering a Weight Manually

No scale connected? The Weight task shows · Manual entry, and the chute notes that weights will be typed in:

  1. Tap Record (or Weigh) on the Weight task.
  2. Type the weight in the entry dialog.
  3. Confirm to save it onto the animal.

Pounds and Kilograms

You can display weights in pounds or kilograms (set on the Scale tab of Device Settings). Whichever you choose, Cattle360 always stores weights in pounds — kilogram displays are converted on save — so your records stay consistent no matter which device or unit was used.

Tips

  • Wait for “Stable.” When the readout says Stable, the animal has settled and the number is trustworthy.
  • Data Logger saves a step. With a Data Logger scale you often don’t need to scan an EID separately — the weigh brings up the animal too.
  • Manual still works offline. Typed weights are staged like any other action and sync when you reconnect.
