Workings Overview
A working in Cattle360 represents a herd processing session — the digital equivalent of running animals through a chute. A working lets you plan a set of tasks, choose the animals to process, and then work each animal one at a time on a purpose-built, chute-side screen — recording weights, treatments, brands, retags, and notes as you go.
What a Working Brings Together
- A set of animals — Pulled in from groups, pastures, or individual IDs when you create the working.
- A task list — The procedures to perform on each animal (treatment, castration, brand, note, de-horn, weight, retag). Tasks can be scoped to only apply to cows, bulls, and/or calves.
- The chute screen — A large-button, touch-friendly workflow for processing animals fast, with optional Bluetooth EID reader and scale support, and full offline capability.
Where to Find Workings
Open Workings from the main navigation. The Workings dashboard shows every working as a card with its status, date, and progress bar (animals processed of total). From here you can:
- Create a working — The + New Working button.
- Open the chute — Tap any working card to start processing its animals.
- Resume Active Working — A shortcut back into the last working you were processing.
- Filter — Quick filters for Draft, In Progress, and Completed, plus a search box by name.
- Per-card actions — Open scan batches, open the print packet, or delete the working.
Working Statuses
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Draft | The working has been created but no animals have been worked yet. |
| In Progress | Processing has begun — at least one animal has been worked. |
| Completed | Every animal has been processed (marked Done or Missed). |
| Cancelled | The working was ended before all animals were processed. |
Task Types
Workings support seven task types. Some simply record that an action was performed; others open a short prompt to capture a value.

| Treatment | Creates a treatment record on the animal (medication, dosage, dates). | Treatment details (or applies preset defaults automatically). |
| Weight | Records a weight on the animal. | A weight — captured live from a connected scale or typed in manually. |
| Retag / Assign EID | Updates the animal’s ear tag and/or EID. | The new ear tag and/or EID. |
| Note | Adds a note to the animal’s record. | Note text. |
| Castration | Records castration. Auto-skipped for female animals. | Nothing — one tap. |
| Brand | Records branding. | Nothing — one tap. |
| De-Horn | Records dehorning. | Nothing — one tap. |
The Animal Status During a Working
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Pending | The animal has not been worked yet. |
| In Progress | Some tasks have been recorded or skipped, but not all. |
| Done | Every task on the animal has been recorded or skipped. |
| Missed | The animal was marked “Missed Chute” and set aside to revisit. |
Typical Workflow
- Create the working — name it, set a date, and add animals from groups, pastures, or IDs.
- Define tasks and scope each one to cows, bulls, and/or calves as needed.
- (Optional) Connect devices — pair a Bluetooth EID reader and/or scale indicator, or turn on Demo Mode to practice.
- Process animals at the chute — scan or search each animal, then record or skip its tasks.
- Finish and save — review the session summary and save your staged actions.
