Defining Tasks for a Working
Tasks define what gets done to each animal during the working. Every task you add appears as a row on the chute screen for each animal, where it is recorded or skipped. You build the task list in the Tasks section of the Create Working screen.
How to Add Tasks
- On the Create Working screen, scroll to the Tasks section.
- Click Add Task and choose a type from the menu: Treatment, Castration, Brand, Note, De-Horn, Weight, or Retag / Assign EID.
- The task is added to the list. Repeat for each procedure you need.
- Reorder, scope, configure, or remove tasks as described below.
Task Types
| Type | Effect When Recorded |
|---|---|
| Treatment | Creates a treatment record on the animal (medication, dosage, administered/withdrawal/booster dates, comments). |
| Weight | Records a weight. The chute prompts for the value, captured live from a connected scale or typed in. |
| Retag / Assign EID | Updates the animal’s ear tag and/or EID with the new value(s) you enter. |
| Note | Adds a note to the animal’s record. |
| Castration | Records castration. Automatically skipped for female animals. |
| Brand | Records that the animal was branded. |
| De-Horn | Records that the animal was dehorned. |
Scoping Tasks to Cows, Bulls, or Calves
Each task row has three scope pills — Cows, Bulls, and Calves. Tap a pill to turn that group on or off for the task.
- A task only appears for animals in the groups it is scoped to.
- When an animal comes up the chute, any task that does not apply to its group is automatically skipped — so a “Calves only” branding task never interrupts you on a cow.
- Castration is additionally auto-skipped for females, regardless of scope.
The animal’s group (cow, bull, or calf) is determined from its type and sex. If a task should apply to everything, leave all three pills active.
Configuring Treatment and Note Defaults
Treatment and Note tasks show a small edit icon — click the task label to open its configuration:
- Treatment defaults — Preset the medication, dosage, and dates. When defaults are set, recording the task at the chute is a single tap — no prompt appears because the values are already known. Leave defaults blank if you want to be prompted for each animal.
- Note default — Preset the note text that seeds the prompt at the chute.
Removing a Task
Click the trash icon on a task row to remove it from the working before you create it.
Tips
- Order tasks the way you work. List them in the order you perform them in the chute (e.g. weight first, then vaccines, then brand).
- Preset repeat treatments. If every animal gets the same vaccine and dose, set it as a treatment default to make recording one tap.
- Scope, don’t skip. Instead of manually skipping a task for every cow, scope it to calves so it disappears for the others automatically.
