Default Settings and Custom Values

The Default Settings page holds the account-level preferences that shape how new records are created and which options appear in dropdowns throughout Cattle360. Changes here apply to everyone on the account.

How to Get There

1. Click Settings in the navigation menu.
2. Select Default Settings.

You need the Edit Default Settings permission to change anything on this page. Without it the settings are visible but read-only — ask your account owner to make the change.

Identification & Weight Units

Set per livestock type on your account.

• Default identification — Which tag identifies an animal by default in lists and screens: Ear Tag, EID, Freeze Brand or Other Tag.
• Weight display — Show weights in Pounds (lbs) or Kilograms (kg). This affects display only; weights are always stored in pounds, so switching back and forth never changes your data.

Default Owner

Pre-selects the Owner on newly added animals, and fills in the owner for imported CSV rows that don’t name one.

• Choose an owner from Owner for new animals, or select No default (choose each time) to leave it unset.
• You can always override the owner on an individual animal.
• Existing animals are never changed by this setting — it only applies to records created after you set it.

Custom Animal Colors

Add the coat colors your operation actually uses. Custom colors appear everywhere a color can be chosen or filtered on: the animal edit screen, the Update Color bulk action, and group, report and fieldsheet criteria.

1. Type the color name in the Add a color box.
2. Click Add.
3. To remove one, click the × on its pill.

A custom color that matches a built-in one renames it rather than creating a duplicate. For example, adding “BWF” renames the built-in “Black White Face” option rather than adding a second, identical-looking entry.

Use Only My Custom Colors

The Use only my custom colors switch hides the built-in coat colors entirely, so animals, groups, reports and filters only offer the colors you listed above.

• You must add at least one custom color before the switch can be turned on.
• Nothing is lost when you turn it on. A color already saved on an animal, or already used in a saved filter, stays selectable on that record so it is never silently dropped from a dropdown.
• Turning the switch back off restores the built-in list immediately.

This is the setting to use when your operation has its own color vocabulary and the built-in list just creates inconsistent data entry.

Custom Animal Breeds

Add breeds specific to your operation. Like custom colors, they appear alongside the built-in breeds in the animal edit screen and in filter criteria. Add one with the Add button and remove one with the × on its pill.

Tips

• Set defaults before a big import. The default owner is applied to imported rows that leave the owner blank, so setting it first saves a bulk edit afterwards.
• Add custom colors before turning the switch on. The Use only my custom colors switch stays disabled until at least one custom color exists.
• Weight unit is cosmetic. If a number looks wrong after switching, check the value itself rather than the setting — nothing is converted in storage.
