Calving Window Report

The Calving Window report lists the cows due to calve in the next 30, 60, 90 or 120 days, with their due dates, their sires, and where they are standing.

How to Run It

  1. Go to Reports and click Calving Window.
  2. Click Edit Criteria.
  3. Set Include calvings due within — 30, 60, 90 or 120 days. It starts at 30.
  4. Set any other filters and click Run Report.

Columns

ColumnWhat it shows
Ear TagWhatever your account identifies animals by.
Due DateBreeding date plus the gestation period for that livestock type.
Days Until DueDays from today until the due date.
Breeding DateWhen she was bred.
MethodNatural service or AI.
Confirmed PregnantWhether the breeding has been confirmed by a pregnancy check.
Watch CloseThe flag on the breeding record, for the ones you want eyes on.
PastureWhere she is standing now.
SiresEvery sire on the breeding, so a multi-sire pasture lists them all.

Rows are ordered by due date, soonest first.

How the Due Date Is Worked Out

Due date is the breeding date plus the gestation period configured for that livestock type — 283 days when none is set. It is calculated fresh every time the report runs, so it never needs editing.

That means the report is only as good as your breeding dates. A cow turned in with a bull for a 60-day season has one breeding date on record, and her due date is worked from it — treat the window, not the day, as the answer.

What Is Included

A breeding appears when all of these hold:

  • It is not archived.
  • It has not produced a calf.
  • Its due date is today or later, and within your window.

Two consequences worth knowing:

  • Overdue cows drop off. Unlike the booster report, this one has a hard floor at today. A cow whose due date has passed without a calf recorded is not on this report — look at the Calving screen for her.
  • Recording the calf removes her. That is how a row clears: create the offspring from the breeding and she stops appearing. See Creating Offspring from the Calving Screen.

Unconfirmed breedings are included. The report does not require a pregnancy check — the Confirmed Pregnant column tells you which ones have had one, so you can see at a glance how much of the window is confirmed and how much is assumption.

What to Use It For

  • Planning the calving season. Run it at 90 or 120 days to see the shape of the calving distribution before it starts.
  • Deciding what to bring close. Run it at 30 days, sort by due date, and the Pasture column tells you who to move to the calving trap.
  • Building a check list. Combine it with the Watch Close flag to see the cows that need eyes on them daily.
  • A calving fieldsheet. The Calving fieldsheet template covers the same ground on paper, with blanks for calf tag, birth weight and calving ease — see Fieldsheets Overview.

Tips

  • Check the confirmed column before you plan around a number. A 90-day window full of unconfirmed breedings is a forecast, not a headcount.
  • If a cow is missing, look for a recorded calf or an archived breeding. Those are the two ways a row leaves the report other than the date passing.
