Troubleshooting Workings and Devices

Quick fixes for the issues that come up most often at the chute.

My EID Reader or Scale Won’t Connect

• Use the mobile app. Bluetooth devices only work in the Cattle360 Android/iOS app, not a desktop web browser.
• Power and Bluetooth. Confirm the device is charged, on, and has Bluetooth enabled and discoverable.
• Pick the right model. In Device Settings, select your reader/scale model so the scan filters to matching devices. If it still isn’t listed, tap Show all devices.
• iPhone/iPad readers. Pair the reader in Settings → Bluetooth first, then connect inside Cattle360.
• Scan again. Tap Scan for Readers / Scan for Indicators after the device is awake; some devices sleep and need a button press to become discoverable.

A Device Shows “Connected” but Nothing Happens

• EID reader: The reader profile must match your hardware’s output. If scans connect but tags don’t register, re-check the selected model in Device Settings.
• Scale: The Data output format (Data Logger vs Ruddweigh) must match how the indicator is configured. A mismatch means weights won’t parse.

The Device Turned Off but Still Looked Connected

Cattle360 watches the connection and, when a reader or scale powers off, goes out of range, or has its Bluetooth switched off, it flips the status to Not connected, clears the stale weight, and shows a brief warning. If you don’t see that update immediately, give it a moment; then power the device back on and reconnect from Device Settings. Weight tasks fall back to manual entry in the meantime.

“No Animal Matched That EID”

• The tag isn’t on any animal in this working. Search by ear tag and use Assign EID to link the tag to the correct animal — future scans will then find it directly.
• Offline, this also appears if the animal wasn’t cached. Connect once and Prepare Offline again so the full animal list is available — see Working Offline.

I’m Offline and Can’t Find an Animal

Offline lookups only see animals that were downloaded. Reconnect briefly and run Prepare Offline from the chute menu before heading back out of signal.

My Actions Haven’t Saved

• Look for the “actions waiting to sync” banner and tap Sync now, or open Finish → Save All.
• If some actions failed, the summary reports how many succeeded and how many failed — retry once you have a stable connection.
• Stay in signal until the staged count reaches zero before closing the working for the day.

A Task Keeps Auto-Skipping

That’s intentional. Tasks are scoped to cows, bulls, and/or calves, and any task that doesn’t apply to an animal’s group is skipped automatically. Castration is also auto-skipped for females. To change this, adjust the task’s scope pills when you set up the working — see Defining Tasks for a Working.

I Recorded the Wrong Thing

• Still on the animal? Use Re-work to reset its tasks and record again.
• Moved on already? Open History, load the animal, then re-work it.

I Want to Try Workings Without Hardware

Turn on Demo Mode at the bottom of Device Settings. A floating toolbar lets you simulate tag scans and weights so you can practice the whole chute workflow — even on a desktop browser.
