Customizing the Herd Totals Cards

The three headline cards at the top of the Dashboard — the Current herd totals strip — are fully configurable. Each card is pinned to a group of your choosing, shows that group’s live head count, and can display any stats you pick underneath it.

Out of the box the cards show Active Bulls, Active Cows (with a breeding split) and Active Calves (with a weaning split). You can replace any of them with a group that matters more to your operation — a sale lot, a lease pasture, a set of replacement heifers.

Pinning a Group to a Card

1. Go to the Groups dashboard.
2. Open the settings (gear) for the group you want on the strip, or create a new group.
3. Select the Dashboard card tab.
4. Turn on Feature in herd totals.
5. Choose a Card position — Card 1 (left), Card 2 (middle) or Card 3 (right).
6. Tick the stats you want under the head count (see below).
7. Click Save.

Both static and smart groups can be featured. The head count on the card is the group’s current membership, so a smart group card updates itself as animals move in and out.

How the Card Renders

• Stats appear in the order you tick them, joined into one line under the group name.
• A stat with nothing recorded is left off the card rather than shown as a zero. If no animal in the group has a weaning weight, the “Avg weaning weight” stat simply doesn’t appear.
• The first breakdown you pick draws the coloured bar beneath the stats. Breakdowns are the stats that split the group into shares — breeding status, weaning status, sex split, raised vs purchased. Only one bar is drawn, because stacking two breakdowns in the same bar wouldn’t add up to the head count.
• The card icon follows the group’s contents, matching whichever animal type is most common in it.
• Clicking a card opens that group.

Moving or Removing a Card

• Each position holds one group. Assigning a group to a position that another group already occupies moves the other group off the strip. You’ll see a note to this effect on the tab.
• To take a group off the strip, open it, go to Dashboard card and turn off Feature in herd totals. The group itself is untouched.
• If you turn off every card, the Dashboard falls back to the three default groups so the strip is never empty.

Duplicating a Featured Group

When you duplicate a group that is pinned to a card, the copy keeps the stats you selected but is not featured — otherwise saving the copy would silently push the original off the strip. Turn Feature in herd totals back on in the copy if you want it on the Dashboard.

Tips

• Pick stats your operation actually acts on. Three or four stats read cleanly on a card; ten crowd it.
• Pair a smart group with an age filter. A “Calves 6 months and older” smart group on Card 3, showing average age and total estimated weight, gives you a live marketing readout.
• Rotate seasonally. Feature calving groups during calving season and sale lots during marketing season — it’s two clicks to swap.
