Starting a Check

Starting a Check

A check runs against one or more pastures and groups. Their animals are merged into a single list for you to tick off.

How to Start a Check

  1. Go to Production → Checks.
  2. Click Start a Check.
  3. Tap the pastures and groups you want to cover. Tap again to deselect.
  4. Optionally add a Note — anything you want recorded against this ride.
  5. Click Start Check.

The roster is built and the check opens straight away.

Choosing What to Check

Each row in the picker shows the target’s name, roughly how many head it holds, and when it was last checked — “Checked today”, “Checked 12 days ago”, or “Never checked”. Use the search box to find one quickly in a long list.

  • Pastures are listed first, then Groups. On a free plan the Pastures section is replaced by a note that checking by pasture requires a paid plan — you can still check by group.
  • Pick as many as you like. A summary above the buttons shows your picks as chips and totals them, so a pick made further up the list is still confirmed on screen after searching.
  • The first target you tap names the check. If the combined name is too long, it shows as “First target +3 more”.
  • Head counts are estimates. A smart group can’t report one, and the same animal can sit in two of your picks — it is only rostered once. The real roster size lands when the check opens.

What Goes on the Roster

  • Active animals only. Sold, dead, missing and reference animals are left off.
  • From a pasture — the animals currently turned in to it.
  • From a group — its current members, whether it is a static or a smart group.
  • No duplicates. An animal in two of your picks appears once, tagged with the first target it came from.

The roster is a snapshot taken when the check starts. Moving an animal to another pasture mid-check does not change the list you are working from.

If a Check Is Already Running

Starting a check against exactly the same set of targets reopens the one already in progress instead of creating a second. Tapping Start again after backgrounding the app means “carry on”, not “throw away what I already ticked off”.

To check the same ground a second time, finish the first check — or pick a different combination of targets.

Why a Check Might Not Start

  • “Pick at least one pasture or group to check.” Nothing was selected.
  • “Checking by pasture requires a paid plan.” Check by group instead, or upgrade.
  • “…has no active animals to check.” Everything in the pasture or group is sold, dead or otherwise inactive, so there is nothing to tick off.
  • “Nothing to check yet.” You have no groups (or pastures) at all. Create one first.

Tips

  • Pick the targets in the order you’ll ride them. The first one names the check, and on a multi-target check you get a chip per target with its own found/total count.
  • Start the check before you leave signal. The roster and your animal list download when the check opens; after that the screen works offline.
