Finishing a Check

Finishing a Check

Finishing is what turns a check into a record. Everything still unaccounted for is written down as not seen — explicitly, rather than left as an absence of data — and that is the whole point of running a check.

How to Finish

  1. Click Finish at the top of the roster.
  2. Read the confirmation. It tells you how many were found and how many will be recorded as not seen.
  3. Confirm.

The check switches to Completed and a summary card appears with the found and not-seen counts, the targets it covered, and your note.

Other Ways It Offers to Finish

  • When you tap off the last animal — “That’s all 48 accounted for. Finish this check now?” Decline and it stays out of the way.
  • When you navigate away from an unfinished check, you are asked whether to finish it. Yes finishes and leaves, No leaves it open to come back to, and Cancel stays on the check — which is the answer you want when a stray tap started a navigation you never asked for.

Leaving an unfinished check never loses anything. Every tap is already saved, and the check is waiting at the top of the Checks dashboard when you come back.

What Finishing Records

  • Every animal still To Find becomes Not seen.
  • The check gets a completion date, and its found and not-seen counts are settled.
  • Found animals feed the Last Seen date used by groups, reports and fieldsheets — which only counts completed checks. An unfinished check contributes nothing to Last Seen, however many animals you ticked off.
  • Animals missed on consecutive checks get a warning banner on their record: “Not seen on the last 3 checks”.

Finishing Without Signal

You can finish a check in a dead spot. The check shows as finished immediately and you get “Check finished — it will sync when you reconnect.” It reaches the server, and starts counting toward Last Seen, once the device is back online. See Running a Check Without Signal.

Changed Your Mind?

A finished check can be reopened — the roster carries on from where it was, and the animals recorded as not seen go back on the to-find list. See Reopening and Removing a Check.

Tips

  • Finish even when the ride gets cut short. Finishing is the only way to record what was missing, and reopening later picks the same roster back up. That is better than starting a second check over the same ground.
  • Look at the not-seen count before you ride home. Two or three missing is worth another loop; one cow you know is in the trap is not.
