Duplicating a Group
Duplicating a group gives you a new group pre-filled with everything the original has — its type, its columns, and (for smart groups) every criterion. It saves rebuilding a complicated filter from scratch when you only need to change one thing.
How to Duplicate a Group
- Go to the Groups dashboard.
- Find the group you want to copy.
- In card view, click the copy icon on the group’s card.
- In table view, click the copy icon in the Actions column.
- The Duplicate Group window opens, pre-filled from the original and named “[original name] (Copy)”.
- Change the name and adjust anything else you need.
- Click Save.
Nothing is saved until you click Save. If you close the window, no new group is created and the original is untouched.
What Gets Copied

Smart groups have no stored membership — they re-evaluate their criteria every time they’re opened — so a duplicated smart group fills itself the moment you save it.
When to Duplicate
- Season or year variants — Copy “2025 Calf Crop” and change the birth date range to 2026.
- One-field variants — Copy “Pregnant Cows” and switch Breeding Status to Open.
- Per-pasture or per-owner splits — Build the filter once, then copy it per pasture or per owner.
- A safe place to experiment — Copy a group you rely on before trying a different set of criteria, so the working version stays intact.
Tips
- Rename before you save. “Pregnant Cows (Copy)” is fine for a minute and confusing for a year.
- Duplicating is the fast way to reuse a column layout. If it took you a while to get the columns right, copy the group rather than rebuilding the list.
- Copies of static groups need animals added. Use Add Animals to Group from bulk actions to fill it quickly.
