Working Offline

Chutes are often in pens and back paddocks with poor or no signal. The chute screen is built to keep working when you go offline: your task results are staged on the device and synced to Cattle360 when the connection comes back.

Prepare the Offline Cache First

Before you head somewhere with no signal, download the working’s animals so the device has everything it needs:

1. Open the working’s chute screen while you still have a connection.
2. Open the menu (☰) and choose Prepare Offline.
3. Wait for it to finish. The chute shows a Cache: X / Y animals ready indicator as it downloads each animal’s full task details.

With the cache prepared, you can scan EIDs, search by ear tag, and open animals offline — all from local data.

What You Can Do Offline

• Bring up animals — Scan an EID or search an ear tag against the cached list.
• Record and skip tasks — Weights, treatments, notes, retags, brands, castrations, de-horns.
• Assign an EID to an animal that doesn’t have one.
• Mark Missed, Re-work, and add one-off tasks.

Every one of these is staged on the device rather than sent immediately. The chute shows how many actions are waiting.

Coming Back Online

When the device regains a connection, the chute shows a banner such as “Back online: 6 actions waiting to sync.” Your staged actions sync automatically, and you can also:

• Tap Sync now on the banner to push them immediately.
• Tap Finish → Save All in the session summary, which also flushes everything that’s staged.

If any action can’t be saved, Cattle360 tells you how many succeeded and how many failed so you can retry.

Important Notes

• Prepare the cache while connected. If you scan an EID offline that wasn’t cached, the chute will tell you it can’t find the animal locally — connect once to sync that working.
• Don’t clear the app or switch devices with actions still staged. Staged actions live on the device until they sync; get back into signal and save before wrapping up.
• Sync before you finish for the day so nothing is left waiting in the queue.
